Private chauffeur from London to Windermere, Ambleside & Keswick Β· 4β5 hours Β· Electric Mercedes Β· Call for accurate quote
The Lake District is England's largest National Park and one of the country's most stunning landscapes β home to Windermere (England's largest natural lake), the market town of Ambleside, historic Keswick, and dramatic Lakeland scenery. The journey from London takes approximately 4β5 hours via the M6 motorway.
Our private chauffeur service for Lake District tours is tailored entirely to your schedule. We collect from your London hotel or Heathrow Airport, drive north to your chosen Lake District destinations, and return you to London or your airport at any time. Perfect for a full day excursion or an overnight stay (driver returns separately and collects again).
Lake District tour prices depend on your starting location, chosen stops, number of hours, and whether you need a return journey or a drop-off at a northern destination. Contact us for a fixed, all-inclusive price for your exact itinerary.
The Lake District National Park is approximately 280 miles from central London, making it a full-day or two-day excursion rather than a standard day trip. The M6 motorway provides a direct route north from London, joining the M40 at Junction 1a and reaching the Lake District boundary near Kendal after approximately 4 hours of driving. Traffic on the M6 around Birmingham and Manchester can add 30β60 minutes during peak times.
The southern Lakes (Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston) are the most accessible and most visited. Windermere town is 10 minutes from the motorway; Bowness-on-Windermere (where the lake steamers depart) is 5 minutes further. Grasmere β famous for Dove Cottage, William Wordsworth's home β is 20 minutes north of Ambleside. Keswick in the northern Lakes is the most dramatic setting, at the foot of Skiddaw and beside Derwentwater, but adds 45 minutes to the journey from the motorway.
One-day highlights: Depart London at 7am, arrive Windermere at 11am. Boat trip on Windermere, lunch in Bowness, drive to Grasmere for Dove Cottage (1.5 hrs), return via Ambleside. Back to London by 10pm.
Two-destination tour: Windermere and Grasmere with a stop at the Kirkstone Pass viewpoint. Approximately 8 hours on site.
Contact us for a bespoke fixed-price quote for your preferred itinerary. We provide a confirmed price before you book β no surprises on the day.
The Lake District is at its most rewarding when you move between locations rather than staying in one place. A morning on Windermere (arrive by 10am for clear light on the water), then Grasmere for lunch and Dove Cottage in the early afternoon, then the drive over the spectacular Kirkstone Pass to Ullswater for late afternoon β this circuit covers some of the most iconic Lake District scenery in a single long day.
Our drivers are happy to take scenic routes and stop at viewpoints on request. Unlike a train or bus, a private car can pull over at the Kirkstone Pass summit (465m), park at Tarn Hows, or stop on the western shore of Derwentwater for photographs β all at your pace and preference.
Contact us with your preferred dates, starting location, and desired itinerary. We provide a fixed all-inclusive price covering your driver, vehicle, fuel, and congestion charges. For peak season (JulyβAugust), book at least one week in advance. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
